The most dangerous corporate lie of this decade is not that artificial intelligence has been oversold. It is that AI can be operating everywhere in an organisation, celebrated in every town hall and funded in every budget cycle, whilst producing nowhere near enough incremental profit to justify a single line of that expenditure, and the Boardroom applauds regardless. Why is this considered "dangerousā€? It creates a corporate bubble. When companies spend heavily on a technology that does not pay for itself, and leadership refuses to acknowledge the financial drain, it wastes billions of dollars of capital. Eventually, this financial reality catches up to the market, leading to severe budget cuts, layoffs, or collapsed stock prices when the illusion can no longer be sustained.

The Number Is Not the Truth

AI can produce extraordinary capability, extraordinary activity, and extraordinary numbers. But capability is not value, activity is not profit, and a credible number is not a causal explanation. The Board's real question is therefore not whether AI is working, but whether the economics can prove what changed because it was there.

When Progress Becomes Theatre

The most dangerous AI investment is not the one that fails spectacularly. It is the one that looks like progress while nobody can prove what it has actually produced. When adoption becomes achievement, efficiency becomes value, and proximity becomes causality, corporate theatre can wear the costume of strategy.

From AI Mythology to Economic Truth

AI does not become commercially valuable because an organisation deploys it, celebrates it, or measures it. It becomes valuable when the Board can follow the evidence from technology to mechanism, from mechanism to economic consequence, and from consequence to incremental profit. Everything else may be activity. It may even be impressive activity. But impressive activity is not Boardroom Results Reality.
